#1 Younger studio will probably be better. Why?
In this #picklednotes series, I’ll try to show you how I’m running my business and what’s going on under my head.
By any means, I’ll try to portrait myself as alpha and omega! God, I’m full of shortcomings, foolishness, and undeveloped ideas, but the same as a cartoonist who has the proves of his improvement in the sketchbook, I want to have logs in these notes.
⭐ Today I want to focus on scenarios when younger studios like mine @PickledFrames are a better fit than established production companies.
First, let’s look at when smaller teams could be worse pick:
❌ If You need full-on animated series that will have a few seasons and you need to jump into production right away. Yeah, in that situation studio with under 15 employees probably will not be the safest pick.
But other than that, youngsters can blow your mind. Why?
✅ Each project is “that one.” New studios are like upcoming actors; they want to give the best performances whenever given the opportunity. Because every project can be a breakthrough one, after which they get noticed and recognized.
✅ You will feel like in a local café shop than in the Costa franchise. You will most likely talk directly to the founder, for whom you will be one of a few clients who get as much care as they need.
✅ Everything is new; there are no hard habits to change; for sure, they aren’t using old software without the latest features because “it’s difficult to migrate the whole company.” There is nothing to lose; we can experiment with style, form, and concepts. Future is young!
✅ You will get the best value. Smaller team has its limitations, but they don’t need to have colossal management departments. That means more of your budget is spent on actual creative work.
✅ If you want to target a specific demographic, you need to know it well. And who’s knows it best if not group members themselves. So, think about it next time you will need content that resonates with Dazed and Confused.
